We are pleased to offer a special opportunity for UCHS members to tour the historic Mt. Pleasant Primitive Baptist church in West Philadelphia. This will be the first time in almost 50 years that this small, but special structure will be open to the public.

Completed in 1870,  Mt. Pleasant is one the earliest extant sacred structures in West Philadelphia and one of the earliest designs of the famed architectural duo Frank Furness & George W Hewitt. The building has been the home of Mt. Pleasant Primitive baptist since 1970 and remains remarkably intact.

Mt. Pleasant was added to the Philadelphia Register of Historic Places in 2017 through the efforts of UCHS.

The Reverand and Mrs. Tolliver and Deacon Hawkins will be on site to provide tours of the building and offer insights into this congregation's unique form of worship.  UCHS members will speak to the architecture and history of the building.

Please join us for this special opportunity to tour this West Philadelphia gem.
